Zachary Clay won his first national event at 13 years old, taking the tyro title in Kamloops. In 2011, Clay competed in the Youth Commonwealth games and brought home the silver medal in the teams all around, placed 4th on the floor exercise, 4th in pommel horse, 5th in vault, and 14th on the parallel bars. In 2014, at the Commonwealth Games, Clay placed 3rd in the all around team event and 8th on the parallel bars. In 2015, at the Elite Canada, Clay received gold on the pommel horse and placed 4th for the parallel bars. A few months ago, Clay was shortlisted for a potential spot on Canada’s 2016 Olympic team, an achievement he is very proud of.
Getting into the sport: Began gymnastics at 5 years old as a recommendation from his preschool teacher.
Most memorable moments in gymnastics: Competing at his first Worlds Championships in China 2014.
Odds and ends: Admires his teammate and friend Ken Ikeda and has always wanted to go skydiving.
