Gymnastics Canada unveils new brand as we celebrate 50th Anniversary

OTTAWA, ON (January 9, 2019) – First founded in 1969, Gymnastics Canada (GymCan) has been supporting the mastery of movement in Canada for five decades and is pleased to unveil a new brand for the organization as we embark on our 50th Anniversary year.

Gymnastics Canada unveils new brand as we celebrate 50th Anniversary

“We are thrilled to be launching a new look for the sport of gymnastics in Canada as the organization enters its 50th year,” said Ian Moss, CEO of Gymnastics Canada. “We are a diverse sport with many different disciplines – this new logo unites us with a look that is unique, iconic, modern, and which reflects our pride in being Canadian.”

With the launch, GymCan is unveiling a completely new brand identity including a new logo, tagline, and social media handles. An anthem video showcases the beauty and athleticism of the sport and seeks to drive participation at the more than 700 clubs across Canada.

All creative was developed by Toronto-based marketing agency DOT DOT DASH and was financially supported by the Canadian Olympic Committee’s NSF Sport Enhancement Initiative.

THE VIDEO

Over 325,000 people in Canada participate in gymnastics – from men’s and women’s artistic, to acrobatic, rhythmic, trampoline, or recreational gymnastics – in over 700 clubs across Canada. This short film captures the stunning imagery of the sport in its diverse forms. Showcasing some of our top athletes, the film seeks to capture the grace and flexibility of rhythmic, the strength and power of artistic, the high-flying flips and twists of trampoline and tumbling, and the dynamism and intricate body movements of acrobatic gymnastics.

“We wanted to create something bold, graphic, and representative of not only the physical prowess of the sport but also the extraordinary launch pad that it provides to athletes. More than anything though, we wanted to create something fresh and exciting that would make these athletes proud.” said Director Jason van Bruggen from DOT DOT DASH.

THE LOGO & TAGLINE

Although our individual disciplines are unique, they all celebrate movement of the human form. They also share the idea of 'sticking the landing' or 'presenting' when embarking on a routine, or celebrating on the podium. Our new visual identity reflects this common position of pride and strength within the iconic maple leaf, while also equally representing the bilingualism that makes Canada unique.

Modern, clean, and iconic, our new identity represents a nod to our past, as well as a firm step forward into the future. Our tagline celebrates that we are a foundation sport that prepares people to take incredible steps and stand on any number of podiums in life.

BEHIND THE BRAND

Our brand is the essence, or personality of Gymnastics Canada. It is what makes us distinctive, memorable, and different from other sports, and it is the promise of a uniquely foundational experience. It unifies the disciplines and encourages those outside of the sport to become participants.
