Appointment of Mr. Vladimir Lashin as the new WAG National Coach / High Performance Director

Gymnastics Canada is very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Vladimir Lashin as the new Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) National Coach / High Performance Director. Mr. Lashin is a university graduate from the State central Institute of physical education in Moscow, Russia, an NCCP Level 4 certified coach as well as FIG Academy expert since 2008. He has many years of working experience with the WAG National Team athletes and coaches in Canada, Australia and Russia.

Mr. Lashin has been a Canadian National Team coach for more than 9 years and was part of the coaching staff for several World Championships and Major Games including the 2004 Olympic Games. In addition to his strong technical knowledge of WAG High Performance and National Team programs in Canada, Mr. Lashin brings a broad range of expertise to the position. He has a very good understanding of the Canadian gymnastics delivery system and a leadership style that brings people together. He is passionate about gymnastics and more than eager to improve the situation in Canada and the results internationally. These assets will help him carry out successfully his role as National Coach / High Performance Director.

As the National Coach / High Performance Director, Mr. Lashin will be responsible for the leadership and direction of the WAG National Team. He will also be responsible for the direction of the High Performance system, working in close collaboration with the Program Director and the Program Committee – Women’s Artistic Gymnastics.

Mr. Lashin is truly committed in developing a close and solid working relationship with all the National Team and High Performance coaches in Canada and the Provincial and National partners. National Team athletes and coaches will find that he is one of their strongest supporters.

Mr. Lashin will start his new full time duties on June 1st 2009 (on a part basis as of May 19).
