Carmel Kallemaa awarded senior third all-around at the 2022 Pan American Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Among six athletes in the senior and junior individual competitions, Canada saw fifteen appearances during the apparatus finals and four medal finishes.

Carmel Kallemaa (Glimmer Athletic, ON) came home with a bronze medal all-around in the senior competition, and competed in the apparatus finals for clubs, ribbon, and hoop. She captured the bronze medal in the club final, placed 4th in the ribbon final, and finished in 5th place during the hoop final.

“I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to represent Canada in Rio De Janeiro, at the 2022 Pan American Championships. The competition was a great success for me and Canada,” shared Kallemaa following the competition. “I received lots of positive feedback and I am very excited to get back in the gym and start working for the next competitions.”

National Team member Suzanna Shahbazian (Questo RG, QC) finished 6th All-Around in the senior competition, captured a silver medal for her performance during the Hoop final and a bronze medal for her performance during the Ball final. Shahbazian also placed 6th during the Clubs and Ribbon finals.

In the junior individual competition, Karina Kamenetsky (Kalev Estienne, ON) finished 7th All-Around, and Phoebe Wang (York Stars RGC, ON) finished 9th All-Around. Kamenetsky finished 4th (tie) in the Ribbon final, 5th (tie) in the Club final, and 6th in the Hoop final. Angelina Lin (Adagio Rhythmic Academy, RC) competed in the Hoop and Ribbon finals, finishing in 4th and 6th place, respectively. Grace Lodoen (Silhouettes of York RGC, ON) finished 5th in the Ball final and in 7th during the Club final.

In the junior group competition, Olympia Rhythmic Gymnastics (BC) finished 4th place All-Around as well in in the Ball final and in 7th place during the Ropes final.
