The 2022 Canadian Championships in Trampoline Gymnastics was hosted at the Genesis Centre in Calgary, AB from July 21 to 24, 2022. The competition included Individual Trampoline, Synchronized Trampoline, Double-Mini Trampoline, and Tumbling events for both men and women.
Gavin Dodd captured the gold medal in the senior men’s Double-Mini Trampoline event with a total score of 141.900. Dodd also set the new Canadian difficulty record on DMT with a two-pass difficulty at 20.8. The previous record was held by Denis Vachon with a 20.0. Kieran Lupish captured the silver medal, and surpassed Vachon’s prior difficulty with a two-pass difficulty of 20.4.
“The competition went really well this week; I came in with a plan and was able to execute accordingly,” shared Dodd following the competition. “It was really cool to break the Canadian difficulty record. It was something I was thinking about before the competition, but an amazing experience to find out I broke the record.”
Hannah Metheral captured the gold medal in the senior women’s Double-Mini Trampoline event with a total score of 125.900. Joining Metheral on the podium was Kayla Howell with the silver medal and Hannah Brown with the bronze medal.
In the senior Individual Trampoline category, it was Sophiane Méthot who captured the women’s gold medal with a total score of 110.310, while Jérémy Chartier captured the men’s gold medal with a total score of 118.410. The senior women’s podium also included Sarah Milette with the silver medal and Samantha Smith taking home the bronze medal. On the senior men’s podium, it was Keegan Soehn who took home the silver medal, while Rémi Aubin captured third place for the bronze medal.
“I had strong scores in both the preliminary and final rounds of the competition. It was a lot of fun to come back to in-person competition and to be able to see everyone,” shared Sophiane Méthot following the competition. “It’s been a busy season leading up to Canadian Championships with several World Cups, and I am looking forward to the break before any potential preparations for World Championships begin.”
The Synchronized Trampoline event saw Samantha Smith and Rachel Tam taking home the gold medal in the senior women’s event with a total score of 94.750, while Nathan Levasseur and Étienne Cloutier captured first place in the senior men’s event with a total score of 94.520.
In the senior Tumbling events, it was Helen Dong and Mitchel Pedersen who took home the gold medals in the women’s and men’s categories, respectively. Dong finished the competition with a total score of 87.800 and was joined on the podium by Hannah Scholes in second place and Taylor Pillinger in third place. Pedersen completed the Tumbling competition with a total score of 89.600. Joining Perdersen on the podium was Adam Stannard with the silver medal and Philopateer Malek with the bronze medal.
