About Gymnastics Canada

Our Story

Founded in 1969, Gymnastics Canada has been supporting the mastery of movement in Canada for decades.

Gymnastics is a sport for all ages and stages in life that provides its participants with flexibility, balance, agility, and strength.

As one of only three Olympic sports to be considered ‘foundation sports’ by the International Olympic Committee and Sport Canada, we take this foundation-aspect to heart. It forms the base for our mission.

Our Values

Excellence

  • Excellence

Excellence extends beyond mere medals and victories; it encompasses qualities such as resilience, perseverance, and respect for opponents and teammates alike. It involves a commitment to continuous improvement, dedication, and the development of one’s abilities. It does not come at the expense of moral or ethical compromises. A truly excellent athlete, coach, or team promotes a healthy and positive sports culture that prioritizes the well-being and development of all participants.

Fairness

  • Fairness

Fairness involves not only competing within the rules but also adhering to a set of moral and ethical principles, honesty, and fair play. It involves promoting inclusivity and diversity, ensuring that everyone has an equal opportunity to participate and succeed, irrespective of background or ability.

Connection

  • Connection

Connection in sport is closely tied to the concept of community. It promotes a sense of belonging, creating an environment where everyone feels supported and encouraged. By working together, participants can share their knowledge and resources in service to a common purpose. Doing so encourages active participation, volunteerism, and engagement from various stakeholders, including coaches, athletes, organizers, and spectators.

Safety

  • Safety

Safety is a commitment to prioritizing the well-being of all participants and requires a holistic approach that goes beyond risk mitigation. It encompasses policies, measures, education, and a commitment to creating an environment where everyone can perform at their best by feeling secure, supported, and free from physical, emotional, and mental harm.

Individuals demonstrate the value of safety by modelling safe behaviors, advocating for safer practices, demonstrating care and concern for the safety of others, and actively working to ensure a safe environment for all.
