Canada’s Rhythmic Gymnasts are Golden in Portimão

OTTAWA, ON (May 6, 2025) – Canada’s rhythmic artistic gymnastics team delivered fantastic performances at the 32nd Portimão International Tournament held on May 2nd – 4th at Portimão Arena in Portugal. 


Junior RGG and Junior RGI Teams 

The Canadian Junior Women’s Rhythmic Group Gymnastics team put on an impressive performance during the qualifications for the Junior RGG All-Around, finishing in 4th place. They returned with determination for the Junior RGG Hoops and Clubs Finals, where they captured gold medals in both events. The talented team included Eliza Bendeliiani, Gillian Lu, Iana Ivanova, Lillian Yervzlin, and Cynthia Leng. 

Canada was represented by two RGI teams in the All-Around competition. Team Canada 2, featuring Taisia Costeva and Berna Ablikim, secured a 7th place finish. Close behind, Team Canada 1, comprised of Olivia Nguyen and Milana Sholkavich, placed 8th. 


Junior RGI 

Canada was represented in all four apparatus finals by Taisia Costeva, Milana Sholkvich, Olivia Nguyen, and Berna Ablikim.  

Hoop – Taisia Costeva placed 6th with a score of 21.500. 


Ball – Milana Sholkavich earned a strong 5th place finish with a score of 21.567. 

Clubs – Olivia Nguyen delivered a standout routine, earning silver with a 2nd place finish and a score of 23.300. 


Ribbon – Berna Ablikim rounded out the finals in 6th place, scoring 21.566. 


Senior RGI 

Canada was represented again in all four apparatus finals by Cindy He, Karin Kamenetsky, Angelina Lin, and Erica Lee. 

Hoop – Cindy He delivered a solid performance, finishing 7th with a score of 22.233. 

Ball – Karin Kamenetsky secured a spot in the top 8, earning a score of 20.967. 

Clubs – Angelina Lin narrowly missed the podium, placing 4th with a score of 24.534, while Cindy He followed in 6th with 23.333. 

Ribbon – Angelina Lin claimed the bronze medal with a strong score of 24.533, and Erica Lee finished close behind in 5th with 24.267.
