Canadian gymnasts shine at the 2026 International Gymnix

Ottawa, ON (March 10, 2026) — Canadian athletes turned in an impressive series of performances at the 32nd edition of the International Gymnix, held March 4 to 8 at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex in Montreal. 

More than 1,200 athletes took part in the event, which featured the Junior Cup, Senior Cup and International Finals. The competition welcomed delegations from Belgium, Canada, the United States, Italy and Japan in the Junior Cup (March 7), as well as Germany, Canada, Japan and Mexico in the Senior Cup (March 6). The International Finals on March 8 brought together athletes from all participating countries. 

Competing on home soil, Canadian gymnasts rose to the occasion and delivered several standout performances in the senior competition, making the most of the opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd. 

Lia-Monica Fontaine led the way with an exceptional competition, reaching the podium five times. She captured gold medals on vault and floor, while also earning silver medals on uneven bars and balance beam. Fontaine also claimed the all-around gold with an impressive score of 54.233. 

For her part, Lia Redick captured silver on floor and all-around, posting a score of 53.900 while her teammate Gabrielle Black also secured the bronze medal on vault. 

Canada also had amazing success in the team competition. Team Canada 1, — Alyssa Guerrier Calixte, Lia-Monica Fontaine, Gabrielle Black and Lia Redick — captured the gold medal in the all-around with a total score of 160.100, while Team Canada 2 — Samantha Couture, Gabrielle Elise Fausto, VictorianeCharron and Zoe Tsaprailis — finished third with a score of 152.567. 

The junior athletes also delivered encouraging performances throughout the week, showcasing the next generation of Canadian talent. Junior Team Canada featured Nikita Théodat, Marion Desjardins, Mackenzie Grant and Taya Macey, while Nelly Dubé and Maryam Saber competed as junior individual athletes. 

The 32nd edition of International Gymnix once again drew strong support from the gymnastics community. Nearly 8,000 spectators attended the competition during the week, creating a vibrant atmosphere for the athletes. The event was made possible thanks to the dedication of more than 300 coaches and officials and over 300 volunteers.
