Ottawa, ON (July 2, 2026) — The 2026 Canadian Gymnaestrada is in full swing in Regina, Saskatchewan, bringing together more than 650 participants of all ages and abilities from across the country for five days dedicated to movement, creativity, and community. Since arriving on June 30, participants have embraced the festival atmosphere that defines the event, coming together to perform, learn from one another, build lasting friendships, and celebrate the spirit of Gymnastics for All.
The event officially began on July 1 with the Opening Ceremonies, featuring a Parade of Delegates that showcased participating groups from across Canada. Regina-based Indigenous organization OneHoop opened the ceremony with an Honour Song, followed by a performance of O Canada by Brynn Cole. Performances by the Saskatchewan Baton Twirling Association, the Saskatchewan Roughrider Cheer Team, and Indigenous One Hoop dancers energized the crowd before the ceremony concluded with the traditional Flash Mob involving participants and spectators alike.
The celebrations continued throughout the afternoon and evening at Wascana Park, where Canada Day festivities, presented in partnership with the City of Regina, featured outdoor performances by Gymnaestrada groups, bringing together participants, families, friends, and members of the local community in a celebration of movement and connection.
Building on the excitement of Opening Day, participants took part in rehearsals and a variety of workshops on July 2, including dance, movement, performance, inclusion, and physical well-being. The sessions provided opportunities to develop new skills, exchange ideas, and connect with fellow participants from across the country, while groups continued preparing for the Indoor Performances.
Taking place on July 3 and 4 at the Brandt Centre, these performances will showcase routines that participants have spent months preparing and, for many groups, represent an important milestone on the road to the 2027 World Gymnaestrada in Lisbon, Portugal.
The event will conclude on July 4 with the Closing Ceremonies, marking the end of five days of performances, workshops, and shared experiences that celebrate the values of Gymnastics for All.
“A year of planning has culminated with our team coming together to put on an amazing opening ceremony, and the participants celebrating Canada Day with some unforgettable performances in the park. With the celebration still extending into Friday and Saturday, the team excitement of Gymnaestrada is just getting started.” said Terrol Russell, CEO of Gymnastics Saskatchewan.
