Competition Recap – April 4 – 6th 2025

OTTAWA, ON (April 7, 2025) – Canada’s trampoline, double mini, and rhythmic athletes delivered fantastic performances over the past weekend at the FIG World Cup – AERE Trophy and FIG Sofia World Cup in Riccione, Italy and Sofia, Bulgaria.  


FIG World Cup – AERE Trophy 

Team Canada delivered impressive performances at the Palazzo dello Sport di Riccione, securing podium finishes in both Trampoline and Double Mini.  

Women’s Trampoline 

The Canadian Senior Women competed in individual qualifications on the first day of competition.  Sophiane Methot led the Canadian team in 6th place with a score of 56.020, earning her spot in the Individual Trampoline final. Rielle Bonne finished in 24th place just ahead of Rachel Tam in 25th with final scores of 51.780 and 51.670 respectively. Sarah Milette finished rounded out the top 30 in 29th with a score of 50.860. 

In the Women’s Individual Trampoline Final, Sophiane Methot delivered a stellar performance securing a bronze medal. This was her first competition back since winning the bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Fellow Paris 2024 Individual Trampoline finalist Hu Yicheng of China claimed the gold, and Sofiia Aliaeva from Russia earned the silver medals.  

Men’s Trampoline 

The Canadian Senior Men competed in individual qualifications on the first day of competition. Gavin Dodd led team Canada in 25th place with a score of 56.940. Etienne Cloutier finished in 44th with a score of 53.270 and not far behind him was Alexan Adjemian in 47th with a score of 52.870. 

Women’s Synchro Trampoline 

The two Canadian Women’s synchro team competed in synchro qualifications held on the first day of competition. Sophiane Methot and Sarah Milette lead Team Canada to 3rd with a score of 49.030, earning them a spot in the Women’s Synchro finals. Rielle Bonne and Kalena Soehn rounded out the top 10 with a score of 46.210.  

In the Women’s Synchro final, Sophiane Methot and Sarah Milette finished in 7th.  

Mixed Synchro Trampoline 

For the first time in Canadian Trampoline history, two Canadian Synchro Teams competed in mixed synchro qualifications on the first day of competition. Rielle Bonne and Alexan Adjemian led a fantastic start for the Canadians finishing 3rd with a score of 46.940, earning their spot in the Mixed Trampoline final. Rachel Tam and Etienne Cloutier earned 9th place with a score of 44.010.  

In the Mixed Synchro final, Canadian gymnasts Rielle Bonne and Alexan Adjemian delivered a fantastic performance earning 5th place.  

Men’s Synchro Trampoline 

The Canadian Men’s Synchro team competed in Men’s Synchro Qualifications on the first day of competition. Etienne Cloutier and Alexan Adjemian finished just inside the top 15 in 14th with a score of 42.200.  

Women’s Double Mini 

The Canadian Women competed in the Women’s Double Mini qualifications on the first day of competition. Gabriella Flynn started the Canadians off strong with a 2nd place finish with a score of 51.600, getting her ticket to the Double Mini finals. Kalena Soehn finished in 9th with a score of 49.800. McKayla Dalgetty finished in 15th with a score of 48.000 and Kayla Howell rounding out the Canadian team in 19th with a score of 43.100.  

Gabriella Flynn competed in the Double Mini final and finished in 5th.  

Men’s Double Mini 

In the Men’s Double Mini Competition, after qualifications on Day 1, Gavin Dodd finished in 8th with a score of 56.500 and qualified for Double Mini Finals. Kieran Lupisj and Tristan Bloom finished 15th and 16th with scores of 54.200 and 53.700, respectively. Mark Armstrong rounded out the top 30 of qualifications.  

Gavin Dodd went on to compete in the Men’s Double Mini Final on the final day of competition. Ruben Padilla of the USA claimed the gold, Mikhail Zalomin of Russia earned the silver, and Gavin Dodd finished on the third step of the podium.

FIG Sofia World Cup 

Suzanna Shahbazian represented Canada at the Arena Sofia Sports Hall in Sofia, Bulgaria on April 4th – 6th 2025.   

Suzanna Shahbazian, finished in 31st in the individual all-around with a total of 98.800. 

Apparatus Results:  

Clubs – Suzanna finished 25th with a total of 25.100. 

Ribbon – Suzanna finished 30th with a total of 24.650. 

Hoop – Suzanna finished 41st with a total of 24.700. 

Ball – Suzanna finished 38th with a total of 24.350.
