Ottawa, ON (October 21, 2025) – Team Canada delivered a series of standout performances during the qualification rounds of the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, currently underway in Jakarta, Indonesia, from October 19 to 25. The qualifications, held on October 20, saw several Canadian athletes stand out and qualify for individual finals.
Promising Performances from the Men’s Team
On the men’s side, Felix Dolci from Quebec qualified for the men’s all-around final scheduled for Wednesday, October 23 at 6:30 p.m. local time, finishing 20th in qualifications with a score of 76.632. This marks his third appearance at the World Championships, a testament to his consistency and commitment at the highest level.

Aidan Li, competing in his first-ever World Championships, made an immediate impact. He placed 5th in the pommel horse qualifications with an impressive score of 14.400, earning a spot in the event final. This result represents the highest Canadian ranking ever on this apparatus and positions Aidan as one of the country’s most promising prospects for the 2028 Olympic Games.

Youth Shines, Experience Inspires
On the women’s side, the next generation is making its mark. At just 16 years old, Lia-Monica Fontaine qualified for the vault final with a strong performance, scoring 14.099, placing her 3rd in the qualification round. Her debut at the senior World Championships confirms her potential on the international stage.

Veteran Ellie Black, a cornerstone of the women’s team, once again delivered. In her ninth World Championships appearance, she qualified for the beam final with a score of 13.466, finishing 4th in qualifications. Her continued excellence and leadership remain sources of inspiration for Canada’s emerging talent.

Gabrielle Black, also making her World Championships debut, impressed in qualifications with a vault score of 13.500. She is currently the third reserve for the vault final, ready to seize the opportunity should it arise.
