Canadian Acrobatic Gymnasts take on the 13th FIG Acrobatic Gymnastics World Age Group Competition

Gymnastics Canada (GymCan) proudly celebrates the remarkable performances of our Canadian athletes at the 2024 Acrobatic Gymnastics World Age Group Competitions in Guimarães, Portugal!

Day 1 kicked off with incredible energy at the Pavilhão Multiusos Guimarães, where two talented Canadian teams took on the Women’s 12-18 Group balance routine qualifications. Team CAN2—featuring Gillian De Vries, Regan Forster, and Sol Mendez (Saltos Gymnastics, AB)—achieved a strong 30th-place finish with a score of 25.000. Team CAN1, made up of Jorden Diana, Karyzza Guillermo, and Lauren Marttila (Oakville Gymnastics Club, ON), showed great teamwork and sportsmanship despite a fall, earning a score of 23.090 and placing 40th.

The excitement continued on Day 2, where Canadian athletes competed in multiple categories, including the women’s 12-18 pair and groups and 13-19 pairs. Joelle Attard and Marcela Rodriguez (Oakville Gymnastics Club, ON) delivered an impressive performance in the 12-18 women’s pair balance routine, scoring 26.270 and finishing 12th. In the 13-19 women’s pair balance, Maeve Doherty and Chloe Fiore (Oakville Gymnastics Club, ON) earned 15th place with a score of 26.120. Diana, Guillermo, and Marttila were back in action, securing 23rd place in the dynamic routine with a score of 26.050, while De Vries, Forster, and Mendez landed 39th with 24.710.

As qualifications wrapped up, Attard and Rodriguez finished their dynamic routine in the 12-18 women’s pair category, scoring 24.510 and placing 23rd. Overall, the pair accumulated an all-around score of 50.780, ending the qualification phase in a solid 18th place. The highlight came when Doherty and Fiore soared into the 13-19 women’s pair finals, finishing 10th in dynamic qualification with a score of 26.120. Their phenomenal effort in the finals earned them a 7th-place finish for Canada!

We are incredibly proud of all the athletes who represented Canada at the 2024 Acrobatic Gymnastics World Age Group Competitions—your hard work and dedication have truly shone on the world stage!

But the excitement doesn’t stop there! Get ready to cheer on Canadian and Pan American Champions Theodore Chan and Emerson Wong (Oakville Gymnastics Club, ON) as they make history as the first Canadian senior athletes to ever compete in an Acrobatic Worls Championships. They will take center stage at the 29th FIG Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships from September 19-22, 2024.
